Communication to DS9097U not working

samuix
Hi,
we have a "test" installation with a 1-Wire Adapter USB DS9490R (eService) and connected sensors constructed as all sensors have been read correctly.
Now we have the "end installation" with 1-Wire bus coupler USB Pro, Isolated (eService) -> 1-Wire hub III DC (eService) -> i-wire bus -> sensor
On the bus coupler, we have connected a owserver but no sensor is displayed.
We have following trace:

page 3 says that "1-Wire hub III DC (eService)" is a passive star
coupler rather than a onewire "hub". That means the stubs shouldn't be
longer than a few metres to avoid electrical problems.

Which distribution do you use?

Please test with owserver and owget as you need to trigger at least one
bus action to get a useful log output:

# /opt/owfs/bin/owserver --debug -d /dev/ttyUSB1

Other terminal window

$ /opt/owfs/bin/owread /uncached

What does the owserver log say?

Kind regards

Ah, sorry. Must be owdir or owget. owread does not handle directories.

Ah, sorry. Must be owdir or owget. owread does not handle directories.

This looks as if no device is attached at all.

Could you please connect the sensor (which one?) directly to your
DS9097U based host adaptor, remove all the other cabling and devices,
then retry?

Kind regards

Re: Communication to DS9097U not working

Hi,
thanks, this we will try this tomorrow.

we tried already the Maxim onewireViewer (windows variante) and sensors were showed, therefore we are thinking, that the cables and connections should be fine....

Hi,
below the results from the direct connected sensor, it seems that it is not found under linux:-(
(with Maxim Windows 1wireViewer the sensors are displayed and measured)
It seems that somehow the communication at linux is not working :-(

This looks as if no device is attached at all.

Could you please connect the sensor (which one?) directly to your
DS9097U based host adaptor, remove all the other cabling and devices,
then retry?

Kind regards

Jan

The host adaptor chip is found and there is no error while initializing
and sending commands to it so it *should work*.

With exactly the same setup as you have it now?

I have to admit, I'm a bit lost. We have no obvious error messages about
or from the host adaptor chip, it just doesn't work.

Please check you haven't any other owfs related programs started.

---

If you are curious, you can also check whether the latest version from
the git archive fixes it for you. Johan Ström has put FTDI support into
the code. You need libftdi development packages installed for this, too.

$ git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/owfs/code owfs-code
$ cd owfs-code
$ ./bootstrap
$ ./configure --with-libftdi-config=<path to your libftdi-config or
libftdi1-config>

$ make ; sudo make install

When you have built it, start owserver with

# owserver -d ftdi:i:0x0403:0x6001 --debug

I don't think that it makes a difference but who knows?

Kind regards

Hi,

we just exchanged the computer, instead Linux a windows device at the USB-cable and started onewireViewer.

no other owfs is running on the connected linux system.
After the built following trace showed up, somehow the sensors are not found.

$ git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/owfs/code owfs-code
$ cd owfs-code
$ ./bootstrap
$ ./configure --with-libftdi-config=<path to your libftdi-config or
libftdi1-config>

$ make ; sudo make install

When you have built it, start owserver with

# owserver -d ftdi:i:0x0403:0x6001 --debug

I don't think that it makes a difference but who knows?

Kind regards

Jan

At least now you know which kind of error to expect when the host
adaptor isn't detected.

Again, I'm lost. The original setup should work.

I'm not sure schreib actually built with FTDI support? The log said:

]*$> compiled to 0xb77b4b60g Ex expression <^ *([^ ]+)[
]*$> compiled to 0xb77b4b40g Ex expression <^ *([^ ]+) *: *([^ ]+)[
]*$> compiled to 0xb77b4b20g Ex expression <^ *([^ ]+) *: *([^ ]+) *:
*([^ ]+)[

where it ought to have said:

   DEBUG: ow_regex.c:(74) Reg Ex expression </> compiled to 0x800b31ac0
   DEBUG: ow_regex.c:(74) Reg Ex expression <^[:digit:]+$> compiled to

   DEBUG: ow_regex.c:(74) Reg Ex expression <:> compiled to 0x800b31a40

i.e no regex for the ^ftdi: pattern was compiled. And the output is a
bit weird..

schreib: verify that the "make install" step actually installs into
"/opt/owfs/bin/owserver" which you are executing.
Otherwise, you can try running it from the build dir:
"./module/owserver/src/c/owserver"

I'm not sure schreib actually built with FTDI support? The log said:

where it ought to have said:

i.e no regex for the ^ftdi: pattern was compiled. And the output is a
bit weird..

schreib: verify that the "make install" step actually installs into
"/opt/owfs/bin/owserver" which you are executing.
Otherwise, you can try running it from the build dir:
"./module/owserver/src/c/owserver"

No, bootstrap indeed *was* found, but aclocal wasn't. Because you don't
have automake&tools installed. They are needed at the very first time
you installed the sources on your build host. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Kind regards

No, bootstrap indeed *was* found, but aclocal wasn't. Because you don't
have automake&tools installed. They are needed at the very first time
you installed the sources on your build host. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Same as before without libftdi. Bummer.

I make a wild guess: please check whether your onewire bus line rests at
+5V when there is no activity. Maybe your host adaptor has no pullup
resistor and the other setup (with the MS-Windows PC) covers that by
triggering the strong pullup automatically from time to time.

Kind regards

Re: Communication to DS9097U not working

samuix
Hi,
in the user guide of the bus coupler is mentioned:
"Hinweis: Es ist die Funktion "Strong Pullup" zu aktivieren." , i.e. the strong pullup function should be activated.
How can we activate that function ?

How can we perform your mentioned check?
